Check the building drain, upstream manhole elevation, branch layout, slab access, permit, maintenance access, and local rebate before planning a retrofit.
A valve must protect the intended low fixtures without trapping normal drainage. Location, access, branch layout, and a maintained service cover matter as much as the valve.
A backwater valve does not fix a blocked lateral and cannot guarantee protection in every sewer event. Active sewage entry is an emergency sanitation problem.
