A vacuum breaker leak changes meaning with timing and device type
Distinguish brief venting, debris, freeze damage, and continuous discharge on PVB, atmospheric, and hose-bib devices.
Vacuum breakers intentionally admit air, so the vent cannot be sealed. A short event during pressure change is not the same evidence as continuous flow or a cracked bonnet.
Do not cap the vent. Isolate only through a known safe procedure, especially when freezing or flooding is possible.
